What to expect
Brighter Futures will support you and your family to recover from trauma, build positive change, and flourish. It starts with getting in touch. We will follow up with a free one-hour consultation to understand your needs and explore how we can best support you.
Our process
We want to make asking for help to be easy. That means no surprises, and keeping it flexible. That’s why our fees are laid out clearly and each step of the process is set out here.
Get in touch
1.
Contact us via the website, email, or phone. At this stage, there’s no need to explain your difficulties — simply let us know a few days and times you’re available, and whether you’d prefer a phone or video call.
Free initial consultation
2.
One of our practitioners will contact you for a free, one-hour consultation by phone or video. This is a chance to talk things through and explore what support might be helpful.
Initial plan
3.
Together, we’ll discuss next steps and agree on an initial treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Booking your first session
4.
If you’d like to proceed, we’ll book your first session (available Monday–Friday, between 10:00 AM–7:30 PM). Your appointment is confirmed once payment has been received at least 24 hours in advance. We’ll then send the address or video link ahead of your session.
Your sessions
5.
Sessions can take place online or in person. You’ll follow the agreed treatment plan, which typically involves a number of sessions designed around your goals.
Review and next steps
6.
Your work will include regular reviews, where you and your therapist reflect on progress. Together, you’ll decide whether to adjust the approach, or bring the work to a close — always collaboratively.
Please note: sessions cancelled within 24 hours are non-refundable.Therapy sessions on your terms
Sessions are held Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM–7:30 PM, at times that are convenient for you.
In person
We aim to make your first visit as comfortable as possible. Our therapy rooms are chosen with client comfort in mind, and we’ll guide you in on your first session, so you know exactly where you’re going and what to expect.
At Brighter Futures, we work flexibly to support clients. If travel presents a significant difficulty, such as due to disability or other substantial barriers, and online therapy is not suitable, we may be able to arrange a session closer to you, within reason.
We currently offer in-person sessions in Bolton, Greater Manchester, Sowerby Bridge, Halifax, and across Yorkshire.
Online
We offer sessions online via secure video platforms. We’ll agree a format in advance that feels comfortable for you and provide the information you need to get set up. Our aim is to make online sessions feel straightforward, supportive, and safe.
Commonly asked questions
-
If you have a genuine concern, such as a disability, which makes traveling difficult, and online therapy really isn’t for you or your family, we will try to find a room closer to you that is also a compromise.
-
Types of therapy depend on a lot of things and they will all be discussed in your free one-hour consultation. You and our practitioner will come up with a plan together.
-
Psychology is not the same as psychotherapy and therapy. Psychotherapy is the same as therapy.
Psychology is more about finding out what’s going on, including any useful diagnosis, so we can plan the way forward on a wider scale.
Psychotherapy/therapy is what we do in the room, on a weekly basis, making small steps together.
-
There are two answers to this. First, you are absolutely welcome to request another of our therapists if you feel it’s not a good fit. Second, it’s completely normal to feel strong negative emotions, even frustration or dislike, toward your therapist — this is often a natural and important part of the therapeutic process. Working through these feelings, rather than walking away can actually be very beneficial to your recovery.
-
We aim to create a space where you can talk to your therapist on a regular basis about how you are feeling about the therapeutic approach. Additionally, regular reviews give you the opportunity to make clear if it’s really not working for you and explore alternatives.
It’s also important to know that therapy isn’t always easy, and most approaches are likely to bring up some difficult images, thoughts, or emotions, whichever type of therapy you choose.
